NEXUS
NEXUS is a sustainable lifescience building with offices and laboratories for scale-ups that Dura Vermeer Bouw Zuid West is building at the Bio Science Park in Leiden. This innovation hub has four floors with a total area of more than 9,100 m2, a parking garage and three private outdoor terraces. NEXUS is aiming for a BREEAM Excellent certification, an international standard for rating buildings on sustainability and energy efficiency. Both in the design and construction phases, ecological, social and economic sustainability performance is taken into account to create a working environment for companies that, like Dura Vermeer, want to reduce their environmental impact. Construction began electrically on July 24.
EMISSION-FREE CONSTRUCTION SITE
In cooperation with FUNDEX and Greener, the drilling operations are carried out using a completely zero emission drilling rig. The electrically driven drilling rig contains a vibration-free drill which takes into account the immediate neighbours. New construction project Nexus is located approximately 3 km away from a Natura 2000 area. This means that in both the use phase and the realization phase of the project, no more than x amount of nitrogen oxides and ammonia may be emitted. Thanks to sustainable measures such as a zero emission drilling rig, Dura Vermeer can keep these emissions to a minimum.
ON TO NET ZERO
"At Dura Vermeer, we take nature into account everywhere we build to minimize our footprint. Together we are counting up to zero emissions by 2050. That is the zero in 'On to Net Zero' that we have in mind. Today we proudly drilled the first vibration-free in-ground FUNDEX pile electrically. We continue to monitor the environmental impact of our construction site even after the drilling is completed. With the materials passport, we aspire to have as many certified, sustainable raw materials as possible, and thanks to the prefabricated construction methodology, we are going for a clean construction site. We dispose of the limited waste with waste sorting through seven waste streams," said Remko Bentvelsen, director at Dura Vermeer.
Davy Maes, Managing Director FUNDEX: "We have been working for quite some time on making all our light and heavy foundation machines more sustainable and in the last couple of years we see that we are actually getting orders for this. The cooperation with the customer, but also the suppliers of batteries, software and the specific knowledge of electrification and connection is a must. Less noise means less nuisance in an inner-city area and results in a completely different experience of construction work in the living environment. We are on the right path in the foundation industry and will certainly be ready to meet the 2030, 2040 and 2050 ESG guidelines! On to a cleaner construction site!"
