The former post office designed by Gustav Cornelis Bremer on Coolsingel in Rotterdam will celebrate its 100th anniversary next year (photo 2). Aside from 23 bullet holes and a bomb crater on the Meent side, the building survived World War II relatively unscathed, but unfortunately it has stood vacant for over a decade. For years, there seemed to be no progress in the redevelopment of this national monument, but in April of this year, the first Tubex grout injection pile was finally driven 65 meters deep into the ground. The intended end result? A 154-meter-tall tower in the old courtyard and a monument that will be restored to its former glory and transformed into a luxury 5-star hotel.
